BYD Auto adopts Xinyun storage to cope with the storage pressure of massive quality inspection data
BYD is a high-tech enterprise dedicated to "using technological innovation to meet people's aspirations for a better life". BYD was founded in February 1995. After more than 20 years of rapid development, it has established over 30 industrial parks worldwide, achieving a strategic layout across six continents.
BYD's business layout covers fields such as electronics, automobiles, new energy, and rail transit, and plays a pivotal role in these areas. From energy acquisition, storage, to application, it comprehensively builds a zero emission new energy overall solution.
Due to its numerous departments and complex production lines, BYD generates an extremely large amount of data from its daily silicon wafer defect detection production line. If all data is still stored on the local industrial computer, it seriously restricts the centralized management and efficient sharing of data in the silicon wafer defect detection production line. Members rely on manual copying to obtain quality inspection data, which is inefficient. If the industrial computer is damaged, all data will be lost. In addition, the limited storage capacity of industrial control computers makes it difficult to cope with the rapid growth of quality inspection data. The increase in data volume also puts higher demands on quick and accurate retrieval and querying. BYD urgently needs to introduce a storage solution that is highly scalable and can efficiently support data retrieval and querying. At the same time, establishing a sound data backup mechanism is also essential to prevent potential risks of data loss or damage.
After a comprehensive assessment of the severe challenges in data storage and security, BYD has chosen the Xinyun SS210P-60 high-performance fiber optic shared storage system and deployed the Xinyun data management system in conjunction with it. This combination not only achieves horizontal capacity expansion and second level retrieval of global data, allowing critical information to be presented immediately, but also provides strong data support and protection for BYD's research and development innovation and long-term development through custom date scheduled backup function, SMB, NFS, and SCSI protocol mounting for fast copying.
Centralized storage and unified management
Distributed storage of quality inspection data on machine industrial control computers not only makes it difficult to achieve centralized data management, but also greatly limits the efficient sharing and flexible calling capabilities of data. To improve the efficiency and security of data management, BYD has introduced the Xinyun unified storage solution.
Xinyun Unified Storage has built a unified data management platform for production systems, where data from all production machines' industrial computers is collected and aggregated in a centralized manner, while providing comprehensive data security protection mechanisms. Quality inspectors can access the quality data in a centralized way, and the quality inspection data of the production line is under unified control, which greatly improves the quality inspection efficiency.
In addition, BYD is a Chinese automotive brand, and Xinyun is compatible with domestic operating systems such as Tongxin and Kirin. Based on Xinyun's self-developed Singstor storage system and domestic processors, both the system and core hardware have been localized. Through the SMB protocol file sharing function, BYD employees can easily map shared directories to their local computers, making internal file sharing fast and convenient. Even during peak hours, there will be no buffering when accessing files, ensuring smooth and efficient data access.
Comprehensive data protection
As the cornerstone of the semiconductor industry chain, the quality of silicon wafers directly determines the performance excellence and reliability of the final product. In the past, data was stored in industrial control computers, which were susceptible to physical damage (such as hard disk failures, computer theft or damage) and network security threats (such as viruses, hacker attacks). To address the challenge of data security, BYD has introduced the Xinyun unified storage solution.
In response to BYD's data security requirements, Xinyun Unified Storage can automatically create incremental multi time point markers for data volumes according to policies. When data loss or damage occurs due to software programs, viruses, accidental deletion, or other human errors, data can be quickly recovered by "rolling back" the appropriate time point markers. To further enhance security, BYD seamlessly integrates with Xinyun Active Directory (AD) domain, achieving centralized and automated user authentication and permission management. Through the security policies of AD domain, illegal intrusion is effectively prevented, building a solid defense line for data security.
Global Search Quick Query
In the defect detection process of BYD silicon wafers, data generated by different equipment, production lines, and even different time periods may use different formats and standards, which poses great challenges to data retrieval due to the inconsistency of data formats. And these data usually contain various types of information, such as defect type, location, size, timestamp, etc. This huge amount and complexity of data make data retrieval difficult.
After introducing Xinyun high-performance fiber storage and supporting data management system, BYD has achieved significant results in data retrieval. Support second level global data retrieval, enabling comprehensive and fast retrieval of massive data scattered throughout the entire system or network in a very short period of time. Support multi-dimensional flexible queries, such as production area, production line, machine number, date, product batch, etc. Unified query reduces retrieval complexity and significantly improves the efficiency of quality inspection data query. Support secondary search, allowing users to further narrow down the search scope and improve the accuracy and relevance of search results by entering new search conditions or adjusting search strategies within existing search results.
Scheduled backup and fast copying
Previously, all silicon wafer defect detection production line data was stored on the machine's industrial computer, which could not be backed up and copied to the storage server in a timely manner, posing a risk of data loss. Moreover, the silicon wafer defect detection production line in the production environment usually needs to maintain efficient operation for a specific period of time, requiring backup tasks to be carried out without affecting normal production. With the backup function of Xinyun Data Management System, BYD can set backup tasks with different time intervals and cycles according to business needs and data importance. Whether it is a daily, weekly, or monthly backup plan, it can be easily configured to ensure timely and comprehensive protection without affecting business. While saving a lot of manual backup time, it also fully guarantees the integrity and security of production data.
Before BYD used Xinyun storage, copying data was done manually, which greatly increased the complexity of the work, especially when processing large amounts of data, and also consumed a lot of time. By setting the source and target paths for quick copying after simple protocol mounting in the Xinyun data management system, users can instantly copy the required content to a specific folder. This feature enables direct end-to-end copying, eliminating the need for intermediate client intervention, significantly reducing data copying time and effectively reducing resource consumption.
PB level capacity expansion meets storage requirements
With the continuous expansion of production scale and significant improvement in production efficiency, the daily data generated by the silicon wafer defect detection production line has rapidly expanded and shown a continuous growth trend. Faced with the flood of massive data, BYD's traditional local machine industrial control computer storage method is already stretched thin and unable to bear such a huge data burden. The introduction of Xinyun SS210P-60R high-performance 60 disk fiber shared storage system has brought significant optimization effects to BYD. The system greatly alleviates the problem of insufficient storage capacity with its massive storage capacity - up to 960TB of physical space per set, totaling 1920TB.
BYD is well aware of the critical importance of data storage stability, and therefore pays special attention to seamless integration with server environments when selecting storage devices. After using Xinyun storage, even if capacity expansion is required in the future, full compatibility can be guaranteed. The SS210P-60R adopts an advanced fiber shared storage architecture, making the expansion process simple and fast, without the need for complex configuration and long downtime operations, fundamentally avoiding the risk of data loss caused by adaptation issues, reducing labor and maintenance costs, and safeguarding BYD's data security.
